Dick (The man who puts the "vice" in the Vice-Presidency) Cheney speaks, SpinShield responds…
SpinShield: The following clip from a speech by Vice-President Dick Cheney was broadcast during a TV newscast on 8/24/04. I have transcribed the entire clip below, word for word. (Under each statement, I have added my comments.)

Cheney: We know there's still challenges, especially in our manufacturing communities.
SpinShield: Yes, in large part due to your tax breaks for companies that move factories offshore. (Not to mention corporations that set up off shore offices to avoid paying taxes.)

Cheney: The President and I will not be satisfied until every American who wants to work can find a job.
SpinShield: The President and You won't be satisfied until 6 people own all the money and property in this country.

Cheney: But this is a strong economy, it's growing stronger,
SpinShield: This is a weak economy. Every economic indicator that they can measure shows that this administrations policies have devastated the economy. What economy are you talking about???

Cheney: the Bush tax cuts are working.
SpinShield: Yeah…for you!

Cheney: Our opponents have a very different vision for the country.
SpinShield: YOU BET YOUR ASS THEY DO.

Cheney: They talk about jobs, yet they never explain how they would put a single American back to work.
SpinShield: Besides their explaination of how they will change tax incentives to encourage employers to keep jobs in America? Besides their explaination of how they will re-shift the tax burden to the elite's (like you) so that middle class consumers have more money to spend in the stores, creating demand for products and services?

Cheney: They opposed our tax relief
SpinShield: Yes, they opposed YOUR tax relief. Yours and the other 1% of the wealthiest elite's in this country.

Cheney: and now they're proposing massive increases in federal spending.
SpinShield: As massive as the increases in federal spending that your administration has implemented? Do they propose $87 billion in federal spending for an unnecessary war? And by the way, do they propose to borrow all of the money to pay for that federal spending, which would result in a massive increase in the federal debt? No wait…that was you.

Cheney: They helped block the energy plan in the Senate.
SpinShield: Yes…you and your oil bidness cronies REALLY hate that one, don't you!

Cheney: They opposed effective reform of the legal system and they're against medical liability reform.
SpinShield: They oppose removing the last bastion of justice available to the typical patient when that patient is irreparably harmed by incompetence, negligence or worse. By the way, in places where this so called "medical liability reform" has been implemented, insurance rates HAVE NOT GONE DOWN. Anybody out there who's voted for tort reform and seen their insurance rates go down?

Cheney: Their big idea for the economy…raise our taxes.
SpinShield: Yes, their big idea for the economy is to raise YOUR taxes. (One of their big ideas, anyway.)

Cheney: What we're hearing from the other side is the failed thinking of the past, and we're not going back.
SpinShield: Is that the failed thinking of the 90's? Gosh no, we don't want to return to the failed economy of the 90's, do we??? When every economic indicator they can measure was off the scale in a POSITIVE direction. When unemployment was setting 30 year record lows, jobs were plentiful and wages were high. Oh yeah, and the budget was balanced and we were actually making the first payments in decades on our national debt. No we don't want to go back to the "failed thinking of the past." We much prefer your "failed thinking." Keep up the good work!
