The difference between the Kerry and Bush service records during the Vietnam era ARE important.
Republicans constantly and consistently make the case that "character matters." They hammered Bill Clinton on the "character" issue throughout his presidency. One of Bushes promises during the 2000 campaign was that he would "restore character to the White House."

It has been said that character can be measured by observing what a person does when no one is watching. Both Bush and Kerry currently lead very public lives. However, 35 years ago both lived in relative obscurity. There actions during that period offer compelling evidence of each man's character.

Bush used his Congressman fathers connections to evade service in Vietnam. His service record in the Texas Air National Guard is full of holes. (Let's remember that Dan Rathers documents, real or not, don't change these facts.)

On the other hand. John Kerry volunteered for service in Vietnam. He served two tours of duty, one on a swift boat patrolling a river in the Mekong Delta. He was cited numerous times for heroism under fire.

The difference in the service records of the two candidates is dramatic. They are evidence of the true character of each candidate.

Bush's character gives him the courage to sit in the comfort of his government mansion (White House) and challenge Iraqi insurgents to "bring it on."

I do wish Kerry would admit the Iraq war was a mistake. I like his question "How do you ask a man to be the last to die for a mistake?" Linda
