They should have learned:
- Don't go to war at all unless there is a clear threat to America
- Humiliating enemy prisoners only further enrages and emboldens the enemy
- Have a specific goal and an exit strategy
Instead they learned:
- Lie to the American people to justify the war
- Hide the truth from the American people while the war is in progress
- Prevent the news media from accurately covering the war
- Prevent the news media from showing the body bags and caskets coming home
- Pass off frendly-fire fatalities as battle casualties (Pat Tillman)
- Present accidents and mishaps as acts of heroism (Jessica Lynch)
- Distract people with red herrings (Koran abuse) so they don't dwell on the real issues (prisoners leaving POW camps in body bags)
