The Democrats do not have to nominate a "middle-of-the-road" candidate in order to win the Presidency.
The Democratic primary of 2004 has been compared to the primaries of 1984 and 1972. Democrats are often warned about another defeat of a left wing candidate such as Dukkakis in 84 or Mondale in 72. (That race in 72 wasn't exactly a clean fight either, if you will recall!)

The race is not about liberal versus conservative.

It's about balancing the budget versus living on credit.
It's about prosperity versus unemployment.
It's about leading the rest of the world versus antagonizing it.
It's about swearing in the candidate who won the race versus the candidate who fixed the race.
It's about knowledge versus ideology.
It's about good pay for soldiers versus obscene fortunes for the CEOs of defense contractors.
It's about less government intrusion into our personal lives versus more government intrusion.
It's about preserving our natural environment versus selling it out to the highest bidder.
It's about supporting work versus supporting wealth. It's about the party of Kennedy and Clinton versus the party of Nixon and George W. Bush.
It's about competence versus incompetence.
It's about peace instead of war.

Re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic won't save the Kerry ship. http://www.swiftvets.com/ 4 More Years of Bush to undo 8 Years of Clinton incompetence. If you're lucky, we'll have Jeb Bush for the next 8 after that. KerryisaTraitor

Yes, those 8 years of relative peace and budget surpluses under Clinton were just awful. Linda

As a single mom of 3 all I really know is that when there is a republican in the white house I can no longer afford health ins from my job seeing as it raises to almost half my pay check and raises are no longer given to the same people who 4 yrs earlier were appreciated and compensated for that.

Those who were so eager to get Bush re-elected may soon realize what a big mistake was made. He doesn't have to worry about leaving a legacy for Cheney, so he'll try to push through all of his "mandated" agenda, ruining the environment, destroying Social Security, and driving a bigger wedge between the have's and the have not's. I worry what will happen to this country in the next 4 years.
