America would be best represented on the world stage by the Marine featured on several news reports that flew his helicopter in and out of Pakistan saving people instead of dropping cluster bombs on Iraq and killing people. The sky over Kashmir should have been black with U.S. relief choppers.
The best way to fight terrorism is to become known as the country that comes to the aid of those in need. Any group that attacks a nation with that reputation would incur the wrath of the entire world. The attackers would find no safe haven.

A country that wages war on the developing world for the sake of exploiting its people and resources will not engender much sympathy when it is attacked.

In recent years, exploding populations and stagnating economies have left governments from North Africa to South Asia unable to provide decent schools, free medical clinics, even clean water. And with states failing, Islamist groups — some violent and theocratic — have filled the void. As Omar Encarnación of Bard College puts it, the Middle East has experienced a "general 'Islamization' and radicalization of society ensuing from the rigid religious and often intolerant character of the civil society organizations now performing functions previously in the hands of state authorities."

It's sad that it takes a tragedy of Shakespearian proportions to bring out the best in the U.S., but no one can claim that we don't step up to the plate when needed. Linda

Those scumbags got what thay deserved. As of now the death toll is 80,000. I wish it were 80 million. Those "people" raise their children from birth to hate all non muslums and most of them support Bin Ladden. Those pieces of shit would gladly slit your throat if thay had the chance yet you are so eager to help them. As I see it this is just Mother Natures way of thinning the herd. BlueMax

First of all, they don't all hate all non muslums or support Bin Ladden.

But there is indeed a disproportionate amount of anger in the middle east directed towards the west and America specifically. Why do you think that is, Max? (Hint: It isn't because they "hate our freedom.")

If the root of our terrorism problem is hatred directed towards us in the middle east, wouldn't the solution be to alieviate that hatred instead of increasing it's intensity? Aren't these rescue operations a way to undo some of the damage that has been done to our reputation by Bush and his war-mongers?
