More American troops have died in Iraq in 2007 than in any other year since the occupation began. So much for a decrease in violence. (By the way, the same condition exists in Afghanastan.)
Last year [2007] was the bloodiest in the five-year history of the conflict, with more than 900 dead, and last [April 2008] month, 52 perished, making it the bloodiest month of the year so far. So far in May, 18 have died.
