John McCain was never tortured as a POW. He was just subjected to harmless pranks by the North Vietnamese. (At least according to Bush administration's definition of torture.)
A significant part of John McCain's world view and political philosophy come from the torture he endured as a prisoner during the Vietnam war.

But he appears not to have suffered "severe organ failure or death," the definintion of torture used by Bush administration officials.

Was McCain the victim of torture at all? Or were his tribulations simply the result of harmless pranks carried out by a few overzealous Vietnamese soldiers, as we claim was the case at Abu Gharab?
