Closing Guantánamo isn't the point. This is America. "Book 'em or let 'em go." |
We don't have a king or a dictator that can lock someone away in a dungeon and throw away the key. We have a justice department run by a president who has to charge someone or release him. This is America.
If there is evidence that these guys attacked or were planning attacks on America, then present that evidence in an open hearing where it can be judged by a neutral jury. If the evidence convinces the jury that they're guilty, lock 'em up, If the evidence is insufficient to convict them, then let 'em go. If the evidence is inadmissible in a fair trial because it was coerced (as in through torture,) then tough titty. If there is no evidence that these guys attacked or were planning attacks on America, then you have no right to hold them in the first place. Locking up these prisoners somewhere inside the US doesn't solve anything. |
