The current wave of union bashing is an attempt to turn one sector or workers (private) against another (public) while the plutocracy sits back and watches them race each other to the bottom. |
All of the current public-sector union bashing is based on the premise that public sector workers receive higher pay and benefit packages than their counterparts in the private sector. Actually, statistical evidence in this regard is mixed.
But for the sake of the discussion, let's assume that this is indeed true. Should our goal be to lower living standards for public sector workers until they are at parity with living standards of private sector workers? Shouldn’t we instead strive to raise the living standard of private sector workers until it once again matches the living standard of unionized public sector workers? Who benefits from working people engaging in a race to the bottom? Could it be the wealthy plutocracy that avoids a tax increase? |
