The fundamental promise of the founding of America was the seperation of wealth and rights.
The idea that you can be rich and I can be poor, but we have the same rights.

And did we achieve it?

No…not really. No society ever has. America is no exception. But it is embedded in the core of our founding like a pebble in a shoe. And it does, from time to time, aggravate the pedestrian serenity of the comfortable.

"We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, {…} with certain unalienable rights"
---Declaration of Independence

Less than a hundred years later, the Communist Manifesto attempted to do more or less the same thing. But of course neither capitalism or communism succeeded in separating wealth from rights.
