Reelect Trump in 2020? Nope. |
Trump brags about an economy that he inherited from President Obama and that has subsequently cratered. You'd think if Trump could do anything, it is inherit something.
A sizable constituency still thinks that Trump is the more compentent administrator of the economy. What they don't seem to know is that more jobs were created during the last three years of the Obama administration that were created in the first three years of the Trump administration. Nothing contridicts the gauzy image of Trump that his producers attempted to create durning the RNC convention as much as the litany of Tweets that he has left in his wake. This is the same Trump who praised a group of torch weilding marchers in Charlotte, NC chanting "Jews will not replace us" as "good people on both sides." As Molly Ivins would have said, Trump's quotes would have "sounded better in the original German." When Trump supporters shouted "four more years" at a rally, he joked that they should instead shout "12 more years." He has refused several times to say that he will acknowledge the result of the 2020 election. Trump has consistently praised dictators and autocrats like Kim Jung-Un of North Korea, Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines and Vladimir Putin of Russia. This just weeks after he used federal troops to clear Lafayette Park of peaceful protesters so that he could pose for a photo in front of a church he doesn't attend holding a Bible he doesn't read. The Republican national convention of 2020 did not propose a platform beyond fealty to "dear leader" Trump. And then Republicans accuse Democrats of wanting to "turn America into Venezuela." Trump, who is known for his anti-immigrant stance, manipulated a handful of immigrants taking their citizenship pledge in exchange for appearing at his RNC convention. This was one of the most cynical in a series of revisionist campaign stunts. His epitaph should be "Do us a favor though." (This was the line he teased Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with when attempting to extort him.) Rather than recruiting the most qualified people for high level government positions, Trump assigns those duties to his offspring. That's banana republic stuff. What qualifications does Jared Kushner have for ANYTHING? Donald Trump Jr? Ivanka Trump? (For that matter, what qualifications does Donald Trump have?) The RNC wants to portray the Trump administration as the "law and order" party. Tell that to Michael Cohen, Michael Flynn, Roger Stone, George Papadopoulos, Paul Manafort, and Steve Bannon (maybe Mexico will pay for his bail?), former Trump allies ALL of whom have been convicted of felonies. (Is this "draining the swamp?") Not to mention the double-dealing of Trump as well as his patronage exploiting offspring, like using his hotels and golf courses as money laundering centers for foreign dignitaries and lobbyists. (These comments proceed the results of the efforts of the Manhattan district attorney and the NY state attorney general, both of whom are getting closer to prying open Trumps pre-presidential business financial records.) The first night of the Republican national convention (8/24/20) celebrated the St. Louis couple -- Mark and Patricia McCloskey -- who gained instant notoriety by waving guns as Black Lives Matter protesters. (The McCloskey's are facing felony charges in St. Louis of "unlawful use of a weapon.") Three days later, a 17 year old gun and "law-and-order" enthusiast, who is also a strong Trump supporter - Kyle Rittenhouse - waded into a Black Lives Matter march in Kenosha, Wisconsin with a semi-automatic weapon and shot 3 unarmed protesters, killing two. Coincidence? The main thrust of the Republican national convention seemed to be that Americans will not be safe in Joe Biden's America, presumably because of Black Lives Matter protesters. But how safe were the 180,000 Americans (as of August 2020) who have died of Covid-19? What is the real threat to American's safety? How is it that the Republican party is "the party of Lincoln," but they support retaining the Confederate flag and statues? The real Lincoln would not recognize the modern Republican party. (Unless he conflated it with the Confederates and "Dixiecrats" of his day.) In her speech during the Republican national convention, Presidental press spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany said "“I want my daughter to grow up in President Donald J. Trump’s America.” Wonder if she wants her daughter to grow up on President Donald J. Trump's campaign bus. In campaign speeches, including at the Republican national convention, Vice President Mike Pence insists “You won’t be safe in Joe Biden’s America.” These dire warnings are made against footage of disruptive events playing out across the country -- IN DONALD TRUMP'S AMERICA! One speaker at the Republican national convention (8/25/20), Abby Johnson, advocates something called "household voting" which would limit voting to one person per household. According to Johnson, “Then they would have to decide on one vote. In a Godly household, the husband would get the final say,” Trump has refused to disassociate himself from the "QAnon" conspiracy movement which, according to NBC News is "the right-wing conspiracy theory that claims President Donald Trump is leading a secret war against a "deep state" of Satan worshiping pedophiles." According to Politico, "Q has prophesied an upcoming event dubbed 'The Storm,' when Trump will reveal the mass arrest ' and potentially even the mass execution ' of the Washington figures responsible for everything from a worldwide child sex ring to murdering a Democratic National Committee staffer." He has also embraced a Republican House candidate from Georgia -- Marjorie Taylor Greene -- who has openly praised the QAnon litany. Quotes from Republican House candidate Marjorie Taylor Greene include:
But the biggest, loudest, most common vindictive that Republicans hurl at Democrats is the term "Socialist." However, they never define what a Socialist is, nor do they give any examples of socialism as it exists either in the U.S or around the world. |
