"Guns don't kill people" is one of the stupidest phrases ever uttered by a human. | |
Of course guns kill people. That's what they're for.
In 2018, the most recent year for which data are available as of 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics reports 38,390 deaths by firearm About 1.4 million people died from firearms in the U.S. between 1968 and 2011. Source: "Gun violence in the United States" - Wikipedia Sure, around 30,000 people die in traffic deaths in the U.S. every year. But the primary purpose of a car is to transport us from one place to another. The traffic deaths are an unfortunate byproduct. We don't ban cars because people die in traffic. But the intended use of a gun is to kill someone. That's its primary purpose. That's what it does when it performs as designed. There is no other product in the marketplace today that fits that description. It is unique. The only real way to decrease the number of gun deaths is to decrease the number of guns. |
